Boston College is pleased to host the annual meeting of the New England Association for Asian Studies on January 28-29, 2017, under the theme of “Asia: Past, Present, Future.”
The BC-NEAAS Conference Committee welcomes proposals for panels, roundtables, or individual presentations that address histories, societies, cultures, languages, literatures, arts, political systems, and economic activities of Asia in regional and global contexts. Panels and roundtables that take an innovative approach to format (interdisciplinary, pedagogical, creative, mixed media) are welcome, as are traditionally organized academic panels. We highly encourage roundtables that address the state of various fields comprising Asian studies. We also welcome posters, new books, and other materials for exhibition.
All proposals are due on September 1, 2016. To follow the AAS format, a panel should consist of 3 or 4 paper presentations organized around a common topic or theme. Names of chairs and discussants are optional. Proposals should include a title and brief abstract of the panel (250 words or less), and a title and brief abstract (250 words or less) of each paper. Individual paper proposals should include the full title and a brief abstract of 250 words or less. The Conference Committee will organize individual papers into thematic panels. Roundtable proposals should include a title, content summary, and description of contribution of each roundtable participant in 250 words or less.
The online application and registration forms will be available in July 2016. Inquiries about the conference can be addressed by email to co-chair of the Conference Committee:
