Sinological Development Charitable Foundation (SDCF) announces that applications are now open for the 4th Greater China Summer Workshop Program in Chinese Studies, a summer course targeted at scholars (including PhD students) who would like to deepen their knowledge of Chinese philosophy and other aspects of Chinese culture.
SDCF was established in 2013 by Dr Elizabeth Woo Li with the objective to promote worldwide knowledge of Chinese culture and civilization. Starting from summer 2016, SDCF has been running the Greater China Summer Workshop Program in Chinese Studies, an intensive month-long course taking place in multiple locations in Greater China.
The main aim of the Program is to introduce Chinese Studies to scholars outside of Greater China who are in other disciplines. Those already within Chinese Studies will also benefit greatly from the Program, as it can provide them with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of specific areas of their broader field of study. So far SDCF has had an increasing number of participants from a wide range of countries (e.g. Brazil, Malawi, Poland, Russia, UK, US, Thailand, etc.) and academic backgrounds.
With a main focus on Chinese philosophy, the fourth edition of the Program will be held in Hong Kong, Macau, Beijing and Dunhuang from 12 July to 9 August 2019. All instruction is conducted in English and a minimum standard is required for participation.
Funded places (sponsored by SDCF) are available, covering tuition, accommodation, half board and internal travel (within Greater China). Participants are expected to arrange and cover the cost of their travel to and from Greater China (i.e. to Hong Kong at the beginning of the Program and from Dunhuang at the end of the Program).
The deadline to apply for sponsored participation is Friday, 22 March 2019, but early applications are encouraged. For more information, please see the 2019 Program leaflet and visit the SDCF website.
