Position: Berggruen Fellowship, University of Southern California

The Berggruen Institute seeks to encourage a deeper understanding of the great political, economic, social, and cultural transformations that are reshaping the human condition, in order to better inform practical responses. It organizes and supports inquiries that bring multicultural and interdisciplinary knowledge to questions of governance, of philosophy and culture, and of global restructuring including especially the role of China. To this end, USC Dornsife Center on Science, Technology and Public Life (CSTPL) and the Berggruen Institute (BI) will sponsor up to ten (10) fellowships at the University of Southern California for the academic year 2020-21.

Open Postdoctoral Fellowship Position at Research Center for Chinese Cultural Subjectivity, National Chengchi University, Taiwan

The newly-formed Research Center for Chinese Cultural Subjectivity*, National Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan is seeking applications for ONE Postdoctoral Fellow in areas related to cultural perspectives of Chinese & Sinophone studies in global context, particularly regarding the relation between the special linguistic modalities of Chinese and thought, ethical and religious practice in contemporary contexts, such as Chinese & Sinophone linguistics, comparative studies in Chinese and Western philosophy, Chinese & Sinophone literature, Chinese or Taiwanese history, Chinese religion, applied ethics and psychotherapy in Sinophone societies, Sinophone digital literature, and their variations. Academic researchers who have interests across the areas aforementioned or excelled in broadening or elaborating other possible dimensions in this spectrum are sincerely welcome to apply.

Besides its more than 80,000 volumes of books in Chinese and Western languages, its library also includes (1) a digital copy of the Japonica-Sinica Manuscript Collection from the Roman Archives of the Society of Jesus (ARSI); (2) the Francis A. Rouleau Microfilm / Digital Archival Collections’ (3) the Canton Diocese Archival Collection; (4) a digital copy of the Passionist China Collection; (5) the Anthony E. Clark Collection; (6) Pre-Modern Japanese & Korean Christian Materials; and (7) other archival materials.

US National Humanities Center East Asian Scholars Program

NATIONAL HUMANITIES CENTER EAST ASIAN SCHOLARS PROGRAM

With the support of the Henry Luce Foundation, the National Humanities Center invites proposals from scholars at elite East Asian universities for fellowships for the 2018-19 academic year. The current participating universities are Tsinghua, Fudan, Shanghai Jiao Tong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University, National University of Singapore, and National Taiwan University, although we are open to expanding participation from stellar institutions.

PhD opening in Mozi and Yang Zhu Studies at KU Leuven, Sinology

This position is offered in the context of a research project on the creation of Mozi or Yang Zhu from “heretics” into “philosophers.” We are looking for a young MA student in Sinology, Chinese studies, or Chinese philosophy willing to study an epoch in this creation. Templeton ACT Fellowship
