CFP: ACPA at 2018 Pacific APA

Call for Papers and Abstracts:  ACPA at 2018 Pacific APA in San Diego

Submission deadline:  Wednesday, September 27, 2017.

Association of Chinese Philosophers in America (ACPA) group session at the 2018 Pacific Division Meeting of the American Philosophical Association (APA). March 28 – 30, 2018 at the Westin San Diego Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego, California.

Description:  We now welcome scholars to submit proposals for individual papers to be considered for inclusion on an ACPA group session at the 2018 APA Pacific Division Meeting.  (Please note:  We are only considering proposals for individual paper presentations for Pacific APA 2018, not proposals for a complete panel.)

We are open to submissions that engage with Chinese philosophy in a wide variety of ways and we are not specifying a theme for the group session prior to receiving proposals.  However, for the 2018 Pacific APA, the ACPA board particularly welcomes proposals for individual papers that engage bring traditional Chinese philosophy into conversation with contemporary discussions in other areas of philosophy.

In addition to the quality of submission, the selection of papers for presentation will be based on how well they can be worked into a good session.

Info on the Association of Chinese Philosophers in North America (ACPA) is available here:  http://chinesephilosophersacpa.weebly.com

Guidelines for paper/abstract submission:

1. We especially encourage submissions FOR INDIVIDUAL PAPERS (not full panels) that bring Chinese philosophy into conversation with contemporary discussions in other areas of philosophy.

2. Feel free to submit a 300-500 word abstract, with or without a completed paper attached.  If only an abstract is submitted and a commentator is assigned to respond to your paper, then a complete version of the paper will be required at least 30 days before the meeting to provide the commentator with enough time for composing a response.  Completed papers should not exceed 4000 words.  The presentation time for each paper will be between 20 and 30 minutes, depending upon the length and structure of the session.

3.  Please do not submit the same paper proposal to more than one group, and please let us know if you are simultaneously submitting a separate proposal for a different paper to other Asian philosophy groups for the same APA meeting.  (We are happy to consider proposals from people who are seeking to be on the APA program in other ways and even from people who know they will be on the program in some other way, but, all else being equal, we prefer to create an opportunity for as many different scholars as possible to present quality work on Chinese philosophy at the APA meetings.)

4. Membership of the ACPA is not required for consideration or acceptance, but we do ask that you be a current ACPA member by the time we submit the session information to the APA.

5. Everyone participating in an ACPA group session is required by the APA to register for the APA meeting in question.

Paper or abstract submissions (with your full name/affiliation/contact information) and any questions should be sent electronically to ALL three members of the selection committee:  sgeisz@ut.edubongrae.seok@alvernia.edusuchoi@towson.edu.

Dr. Steve Geisz (ACPA President), University of Tampa
