The Department of Asian Studies at Cornell University announces a tenure-track assistant professor position for a scholar and teacher of early Chinese literature specializing in any area of literary production, including histories of texts and writing, intellectual history, material culture, and the intersection of literature and religion, during any pre-20th century period; the primary focus of this search is from the Song through the Qing dynasties, but scholars specializing in earlier periods who engage themes or theoretical approaches that cross national boundaries or conventional periodization are also welcome to apply.
Candidates should be able to teach a general education Introduction to China class as well as more advanced undergraduate courses and graduate seminars, including Classical Chinese. Ph.D. in hand by July 1, 2014, and publishing record or strong potential for publishing is important.
