Around the time of Confucius and Youzi, in a typical household of the sort to produce a candidate for the Ru class, would adult servants be major figures in the daily life of a young boy? Would they be unrelated to him by blood? Would they be a child’s main visible exemplars of role specificity?

Do we have a clue about any of that?
