Summer Program for Undergraduates

We are pleased to announce a new program for undergraduate students at the Nishan Confucian Studies Summer Institute at the Nishan Birthplace of the Sage Academy in Shandong, China, July 6 to August 3, 2013.

This month-long training program will include classes in Chinese Philosophy, Modern Chinese History, Contemporary Chinese Society, and Chinese Language.

We will spend our first week at Beijing Foreign Studies University. We will take field trips to Beijing’s famous historical sites like the Great Wall and the Forbidden City, and have a great lineup of guest speakers.

For the following three weeks we will move to our unique location beside Mt. Nishan, the birthplace of Confucius, which affords us a great opportunity to immerse ourselves in the study Chinese culture. At the forefront of the revival of traditional culture, the newly built Nishan Birthplace of the Sage Academy sits just one thousand meters from the ancient Confucian Academy where over the centuries scholars, officials, and emperors came to pursue knowledge and wisdom and pay respects to the Great Sage. This area has been known as a holy place of learning for many generations, and we are pleased to carry on this educational tradition.

Field Trips from the Academy include: The Confucius Temple, Tomb, and Home in Qufu; Rural villages; Mt. Taishan; Confucius’ Birth Cave; Ancient Academies; and more.

There will also be evening cultural activities including: Tea ceremonies; Calligraphy; Taijiquan; Guanli capping ritual; Chinese medicine; Weiqi (go); Papercutting; Poetry; Chinese cuisine; and more.

There are several options for students to earn college credit for enrolling in this program. See the attached brochure or visit our website at http://cewren.user.d-jet.com/show.aspx?id=103&cid=12 or email us at nishansummercewrbw@gmail.com for more information.
