Description:
We seek a tenure-track assistant professor with a specialization in Religious Studies and a focus on the religious traditions of East Asia and their linguistic, historical, and cultural aspects. Serious candidates must be well grounded in the history and methods of the study of religion as a disciplinary field. Issues of women, gender, and sexuality, or religion and media or East Asian religions and politics are of particular interest. Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the interdisciplinary teaching and research profile of the Department of Comparative Studies, the cross-departmental major in Religious Studies, as well as contribute to related programs across the College of Arts and Sciences. Applicants should be prepared to teach an introductory lecture course on world religions, an upper-level theory and methods class for undergraduate majors, an advanced theory seminar for graduate students, as well courses on East Asian Religions related to their own areas of expertise.
Qualifications:
Applicants should hold a doctorate in hand by the time of appointment, August 2015. Applicants must be fluent in at least one Asian language, be well grounded in the history and methods of the study of religion as a disciplinary field, be able to demonstrate a record of excellent teaching, and be able to document an active research program.

TENURED/TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITIONS
EARLY CHINA
NEW YORK UNIVERSITY, SHANGHAI
NYU Shanghai is currently inviting applications for one or more tenured or tenure-track appointments at any level (assistant, associate, or full professor). Scholars should have expertise in two or more of the following fields, all pertaining to Early China from the Shang to the Tang dynasty: (a) archeology and material culture; (b) history and geography; (c) philosophy, religion and textual traditions; (d) paleography (excavated texts), epigraphy, and linguistics. Successful candidates will have excellent reading of Classical Chinese and an emphasis on interdisciplinarity. The ability to handle a wide range of different sources would be especially desirable.
The terms of employment are comparable to U.S. institutions and include housing subsidies and educational subsidies for children. Faculty may also spend time at NYU New York and other sites of the NYU global network, engaging in both research and teaching. The appointment can begin as soon as September 1, 2015, with a later starting date possible, pending candidate availability.
