Journal of Confucian Studies (Chinese Thought and Culture Review)
The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) has recently approved to launch the Journal of Confucian Studies (Chinese Thought and Culture Review) and the Confucian Academy Press, devoted to the preservation and promotion of traditional Chinese culture. The Journal of Confucian Studies is the world’s only Chinese-English bilingual scholarly journal with the aim of promoting Chinese culture and conducting conversations among world civilizations. The Journal of Confucian Studies will be officially launched on August 1, 2014, at the 24th National Book Expo, co-held by SAPPRFT and People’s Government of Guizhou Province.
The Journal of Confucian Studies cordially invites the submission of manuscripts to be published in the inaugural issue. The papers should meet the general criteria of significance and academic merits. Manuscripts should generally be NO more than 5000-8000 words in length. Authors may submit manuscripts in Chinese OR English while Chinese-English bilingual manuscripts are strongly preferred. All manuscripts accepted for publication will be published in both Chinese and English; we will arrange for translation if necessary. Authors and translators are paid at competitive rates upon publication; authors receive double payment if they submit Chinese-English bilingual manuscripts. Authors should submit their manuscripts electronically (in Word format) to the editor at gzkxtzz@163.com by June 25, 2014. Authors will be notified of final acceptance/rejection within one month of submission date. Please include a high-resolution author photo and your 200-word biography with your manuscript. Submissions must NOT have been previously published NOR be under consideration by another publication. Profiles of Main Sections
Dialogue of Civilizations. Each issue of the Journal invites the reader to a dialogue between two selected thinkers, scholars, political and business leaders, known worldwide, on a key issue concerning globalization and Sino-Western cultural exchange. (5,000-10,000 words per article)
Experiencing China. This section features the expectations of people on future trends of traditional Chinese culture as well as their thoughts about Chinese spiritual life, realizing the Chinese Dream, and Chinese contributions to human civilization. (3,000-5,000 words)
Current Hot Topics. Giving appropriate prominence to Confucian culture, articles focus on hot topics of current cultural issues. Topics are selected on the basis of the opinions of experts, scholars, and consultants. (5,000-8,000 words)
Discussions on Chinese Thought and Culture. Contributions to this section should reflect the essence of traditional Chinese culture, central ideals of Chinese thought, and the traditional spirit of humanity in Chinese people. Building up an academic brand for the Journal, this section consists of three to five articles. (5,000- 8,000 words)
Debate Thoughts. Focusing on two or three of the social issues of most concern, this section welcomes contributions with social significance of critical thinking and critical consciousness. Articles should be in the form of essays and informal talks, highlighting Confucian thought and the spirit of Chinese culture, such as Subdue people with goodness, All rivers run into the sea, and Harmony in diversity. (1,000-3,000 words)
Elite Interviews. This section will include interviews with elites in academia and industry about their career and life experiences relating to traditional Chinese culture. This will help readers to understand the role of traditional culture in shaping public figures’ moral development and career ambitions and its social function in transforming social customs, inheriting civilization, and increasing national spirit. (5,000-8,000 words)
The New Generation of Scholars. This section includes two or three articles by the new generation of cultural scholars. Articles may be a research paper, a review or an essay, focusing on the integration of traditional Chinese culture and modern civilization, Sino-Western cultural relations, and interdisciplinary studies in thought and culture. (5,000 words)
Cultural Observations. Each issue of the Journal contains three to five essays, travel notes and reading notes brimming with fresh and insightful observations and thoughts on traditional culture. (3,000-5,000 words)
Illumination of the Classics. This section features three to five articles defining the classics of traditional Chinese culture from a modern perspective. Articles may be a textual, exegetic or interpretative research on any classic literature, book chapters, articles, documents, letters, and inscriptions, etc. (5,000 words)
Shining Moments. Selected lecture notes from the Confucius Academy of Guiyang will be included. A set of lecture notes will be published as a book when suitable.
Chinese Classics Review. This section has one article selected from Chinese canonical texts with a brief introduction and review.
World Sinology. An introduction to the history and achievements of the overseas development of sinology will be included in the Journal. It will offer an opportunity for academics to develop and extend research interests in overseas sinology by inviting dialogue and communication with overseas sinologists.
Cultural Frontier. The Journal will include a body of information about global cutting edge research regarding traditional Chinese culture, with the emphasis on Sino-Western cultural exchange and communication.
