Chinese and African Philosophy: A Conversation
A colloquium is being organized by Marius Vermaak (Rhodes University, South Africa), Daniel A. Bell (Jiaotong University, the PRC) and Thaddeus Metz (University of Johannesburg, South Africa), and is being supported by the Confucius Institute at Rhodes University (South Africa). To be held 10, 11 and 12 May 2013, and hosted by the Humanities Faculty of Jiaotong University in Shanghai.
The colloquium aims to continue a dialogue between Chinese and African philosophers that was begun in 2011 (see this article), this time with several new participants.
The following themes will be explored: ancestors, harmony, distributive justice, democracy and human rights, and distinguished participants will include : John Mbiti (Bern, Switzerland), Bénézet Bujo (Fribourg, Switzerland), Martin Ajei (Legon, Ghana), Mogobe Ramose (Tshwane, South Africa), Tongdong Bai (Shanghai, the PRC), Joseph Chan (Hong Kong, the PRC), and Ken Wang (Beijing, the PRC).
