Call for participation: The Database of Religious History

The DRH began as one of the flagship initiatives of the Cultural Evolution of Religion Research Consortium (CERC), based at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Now funded by a generous grant from the John Templeton Foundation and support from UBC, the DRH has become an independent initiative with partners and collaborators from around the world. It is a free and open-access platform dedicated to academic collaboration, rigorous scholarly standards, and interdisciplinary work in the sciences and humanities.

With the DRH, you can:

  • Explore a clearinghouse for scholarly knowledge and keep pace with the new developments in your field
  • Participate in a forum for scholarly debate
  • Access quantitative and qualitative data for both research and pedagogy
  • Upload your own text and image archives and explore those of other scholars
  • Prepare entries to receive both a publication credit and honorarium
  • Become an editor and solicit new entries in your area of expertise

DRH entries:

  • Are written exclusively by scholars with editorial oversight
  • Are currently organized around one of four units of analysis:
    • “Religious Group”
    • “Religious Place”
    • “Religious Text” (December 2020)
    • “Religious Object” (January 2021)
  • Bring together quantified, standardized data with qualitative information and comments
  • Contain powerful, built-in analytic and data visualization tools
  • Provide links to crucial resources and text and image databases
  • Include a DOI by the UBC library and easy-to-use “cite entry” and “challenge/comment” buttons
