Curtis’s Overview of 21-22 East Asian Studies jobs

Paula Curtis writes:

I am happy to announce the release of my data report and visualizations for the 2021-2022 academic job market cycle in East Asian Studies. Tracking categories such as desired discipline, desired region of specialization, track, location, and more, I provide a variety of information on the market in EAS for the most recent hiring season.

The report also offers comparative examinations of the last job market cycle with this year’s advertisements. I am grateful for this year’s work to be supported by the Association for Asian Studies and National Endowment for the Humanities Striving for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Asian Studies Digital Humanities grant.

As the job season begins anew, I will also continue to update weekly information on job postings (beginning this month) on my searchable/filterable job data in progress datable: This page also features a submission form where you can upload new job postings. I particularly welcome submissions from non-Anglophone circles that might otherwise be difficult to locate. For the data from previous years, please visit:

I hope this data will be instructive for thinking about the directions in which our fields have developed and where they may go from here. Please contact me with any inquiries.

All the best,

Paula R. Curtis
