JeeLoo Liu, the new Executive Director of the International Society for Chinese Philosophy (ISCP), writes with a range of news and updates on the society:
Dear ISCP Members and Associates:
As the new Executive Director of the ISCP, I would like to give you an update on our recent activities.
In addition to the newly elected Secretary Prof. Weimin Sun (Cal State Northridge) and Treasurer Professor Jinli He (Trinity University), we now have three more appointments:
1. Professor Ann Pang-White (University of Scranton) has been appointed the Deputy Director in North America.
2. Professor Genyou Wu (Wuhan University) has been appointed the Deputy Director in China.
3. Profesor Zemian Zheng (Wuhan University) has been appointed the Deputy Secretary in China.
The six of us will do our best to continue the development of the ISCP.
Our upcoming 20th biannual conference will take place on July 4-7 of this year at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. The theme of this conference is “Chinese Philosophy in a Multicultural World.” We have received 207 individual submissions and 23 panel submissions with 86 participants. We are anticipating 200-250 participants this year, making it the largest conference in the 40-year history of the ISCP. I want to take the time to thank our President Professor Chenyang Li for organizing and hosting this conference, as well as members of the Organizing Committee for reviewing the submissions and making proper selections. Notices of acceptance will be sent out by January 31st.
The 21st ISCP conference in 2019 will be hosted by our Vice President Professor Richard King at Bern University in Switzerland. Looking ahead, we are now considering the location for the 22nd ISCP conference in 2021. Following the ISCP tradition, the person in charge of the conference will become the next Vice President, while the current VP will become the next President. If you have any interest in organizing the conference in 2021, please contact me (firstname.lastname@example.org) directly. After I solicit some proposals from you, I will form an ad hoc committee to discuss the best meeting venue for 2021 ISCP conference. I hope to hear from you before the end of this month.
Finally, I encourage all of you to renew your membership now. We have set up an easy PayPal payment option for you to choose 1-year, 3-year, or 10-year membership and the button will take you directly to the payment page as long as you have a PayPal account (fairly easy to obtain one). Wishing you all a healthy and joyful year of 2017!
