With a heavy heart I pass on the news that the great historian and thinker Yu Ying-shih passed away on August 1 at the age of 91. Professor Yu was my teacher and senior thesis adviser as an undergraduate at Yale; he was a brilliant lecturer and a kind, erudite mentor.
