San Diego State University has a job opening for an assistant professor with specialization in Ethics; the department notes, though, that “Because we have a very active Confucius Institute on campus, this would be a good opportunity for someone whose specialization includes Chinese philosophy.”
Assistant Professor: Ethics/Applied Ethics
The Department of Philosophy at San Diego State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Ethics/Applied Ethics. Candidates must have a PhD in Philosophy by start of appointment and demonstrated outstanding research potential in ethics and applied ethics, broadly construed, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines and to contribute to the curricular and scholarly development among different areas of applied ethics: specifically, environmental ethics, biomedical ethics, global ethics, and critical race, feminist, postcolonial, or queer theory. We are especially interested in candidates with an intersectional approach to philosophy who can make linkages between philosophy and other academic areas, including ecology, science and environmental philosophy, or sustainability and society. Demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship is required. The candidate must be committed to teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in ethics and applied ethics, and will develop complementary curricula with colleagues in the following existing programs: Environmental Science, Biology, Sustainability, or Public Health.
Anticipated start date for the position is Fall 2015. Applicants should submit i) letter of application describing research and teaching interests, ii) curriculum vitae including publications, presentations, and research summary, iii) official transcripts of graduate study, and iv) three letters of recommendation. Applications received by October 31, 2014, will receive full consideration; the position will remain open until filled.
