    Description: Lecture

Contemporary Confucianism: A Moral & Religious Global Vision for the 21st Century

There is a great and increasing interest in Confucianism today, beginning in China proper, with both scholars and devotees studying the texts, establishing research institutes and Confucian academies as they were under the Ming and more. Much interest and work is also being done on Confucianism by Chinese in the Diaspora, and still other work being undertaken by Western scholars, who are arguing for a revived Confucianism for the global village the world is becoming, and whose works are increasingly being translated into Chinese. This lecture will cover in brief all of these dimensions of the Confucian renaissance now under way.

Henry Rosemont is George & Willma Reeves Distinguished Professor of the Liberal Arts Emeritus at St. Mary’s College of Maryland and Visiting Professor of Religious Studies at Brown University.
