Call for New Editors: Journal of Global Ethics

The editors of the Journal of Global Ethics announce an open call for new editors to join our team during the course of 2026, particularly seeking to appoint editors with expertise in non-Western philosophy and also editors with experience or academic positions outside the Global North. Please read more for information about the position.

Applications should be sent to notifications.jge@gmail.com and include a letter of motivation and appropriately focused CV.

The deadline for applications is December 1.

Interviews will take place in December, with the new editors taking up their duties from 1 January or fairly soon thereafter.

Please email any of the current editors to discuss the role and expectations further.

About the Journal and Current Editorial Board

JGE provides a forum for inquiry into ethics and values in their relationship to globalisation, human development, international relations, peace and war, social movements, environmental justice, economics and politics insofar as these subjects pertain to global justice. We make a point of openness to contributions from practitioners and activists as well as academics, and from relevant non-philosophical disciplines such as theology, law, politics, and international relations. An overview of the journal’s trajectory, orientation and approaches during its first twenty years is provided in the open-access editorial essay published in 2024 (volume 20, issue 1).

The present editorial team consists of three editors, two of whom may retire once the new editors have settled into their roles.

The position

Editors make up the management team for the journal. This means not only managing individual submissions through peer review, but also arranging special issues and book symposiums, liaising with guest editors, and playing a full role in collective decision-making about the governance of the journal and its policies and future projects. The term is open-ended. Assuming the full complement of 4 editors is reached, the estimated workload would be around half a day per week (on average).

The editorial team’s preference is to appoint 3 new editors to this full role.

The requirements on candidates’ level of experience, commitment, and time availability are some what flexible. Thus applications from those who would prefer a more limited ‘associate editor’ role (just managing a pre-agreed number of individual submissions per year through the peer review and publication process) or who would prefer a fixed or tapered commitment (e.g. committing to 2 years as an associate editor but willing to consider expanding the role later) will also be considered.

Qualifications

The editorial team is looking for mid to late career candidates with a convincing publication record in the kind of topics covered by the journal. Previous editorial experience is highly desirable, but not required. All applications will be assessed on their merits. This includes aspects of diversity that support the journal’s work, especially to ensure adequate coverage of the journal’s broad interests and representation of Global South scholars and institutions.
