Visting Program: CUHK Research Centre

The 2-week visiting programs organized by the Research Centre for Chinese Philosophy and Culture at the Department of Philosophy of the Chinese University of Hong Kong are now open for application. The program is meant to promote exchanges with scholars from around the world by providing financial assistance for visiting scholars to conduct research. To apply for the program you must be a scholar, postdoctoral fellow, or a PhD student from the field of Chinese Philosophy. New Book: The Lost Texts of Confucius’ Grandson

The Chinese University of Hong Kong Press has recently published Kuan-yun Huang’s new book The Lost Texts of Confucius’ Grandson. Huang utilizes the Guodian manuscripts from the fourth century BCE to carefully explicate what the manuscripts teach us about fate, moral cultivation, familial love, obligation, and many other principles that brought order to the Warring States kingdoms. Summer Program: SDCF 2023

The Sinoloigcial Development Charitable Foundation is excited to announce that they will be running the 8th Greater China Region Summer Program in Chinese Studies for 2023. They will be conducting the program both in person and with an online viewing option, with participation from both scholars and key opinion leaders. They hope to accommodate up to 20 scholars and KOLs for this summer and admission. Admission with be done on a rolling first come first serve. CFP: ISEAP 2023 Conference

The Journal of East Asian Philosophy is happy to announce that the International Society of East Asian Philosophy (ISEAP) will have its third international conference on September 15-16, which will be held both via Zoom and at the University of Edinburgh (UK). The Conference aims to unite scholars in an effort to explore what makes the human experience unique, and uniquely valuable.

New Edition: Readings in Classical Chinese Philosophy

Hackett Publishing Company has recently released the third, expanded edition of Philip Ivanhoe and Bryan Van Norden’s Readings in Chinese Philosophy. Hackett is offering free instructor copies if ordered at this link up until May. This new edition builds on the strengths of previous editions with the addition of new selections for each chapter. Each section of this volume begins with a brief Introduction and concludes with a lightly annotated Selective Bibliography. Also included are four appendices: Important Figures, Important Periods, Important Texts, and Important Terms.

New Book: Pluralizing Philosophy’s Past

Palgrave Macmillan has recently published a new book titled Pluralizing Philosophy’s Past: New Reflections in the History of Philosophy with editors Amber Griffioen and Marius Backmann. This collection of 15 accessible essays on neglected philosophical figures and traditions aims to provide readers with concrete access points to less familiar philosophical sources and methods. Showcasing the latest research by both up-and-coming and well-established scholars. While only one chapter is specifically on Chinese philosophy, is an interesting read for those interested in broadening the canon.

CFP: Essay on Confucianism and Interfaith Dialogue

Daniel Ross Goodman, Elaine Jean Lai, and Anthony Lee are editing a volume on “Beyond Dialogue: New Paradigms in Interfaith Discourse”. They are happy to announce that they are now calling for a Confucian chapter for the volume. This volume looks to be the first to address the topic of interfaith dialogue and interfaith theology through the individual perspectives of every major global religion.
