Proposals for 2023 Meeting of the Northeast Conference on Chinese Thought due 7/15/23

We are pleased to announce that this year’s meeting of the Northeast Conference on Chinese Thought (NECCT) will be held on November 11-12 at Brown University. This annual meeting is an opportunity for scholars of Chinese thought (broadly construed) from across the northeast US (also broadly construed) to gather and share their research. This year, we are accepting panel proposals (3-4 presenters) in addition to paper proposals. As we are interested in generating interdisciplinary discussions, we welcome work of any disciplinary/methodological orientation that bears on Chinese thought, including but not limited to history, religious studies, anthropology, literary studies, art history, and philosophy.

Ziporyn Lectures in Berlin: “An Obscure She-Beast” and “Dao is the Opposite of God”

Freie Universität Belin is happy to announce that they will be hosting a lecture titled “‘An Obscure She-Beast’: Reflections on the Translation of Laozi 6” by Professor Brook Ziporyn of the University of Chicago. It will occur on Friday, 30th June 2023, 14:00-16:00 at the lecture room Habelschwerdter Allee 30th, 14195. Please click here for the flyer.

This will then be followed the next day with another lecture by Professor Brook Ziporyn titled “‘Dao is the Opposite of God’: The Critique of Purposive Action in the Laozi.” This lecture will occur at the same location as the previous one on Saturday, 01 July 2023 10:00-12:00.  Please click here for the flyer and more information.

Teaching Opportunity at Wesleyan for Spring, 2024

During the Spring, 2024 semester, the Wesleyan University Philosophy Department and College of East Asian Studies would jointly like to fill two single-course, in-person teaching slots in Asian philosophy. We hope to offer “Classical Chinese philosophy” and one other course. I will be teaching “Modern Chinese Philosophy” that semester so ideally the second course will be different from either of the two other courses. Creative ideas welcome!
Anyone who is interested should send me a cover letter describing what you would like to teach and something about your teaching experience, as well as a CV. If you have any questions or would like to run a potential course by me, please also write to me.
There is no hard deadline, but anyone who contacts me by July 28, 2023 is assured full consideration.

The 四海為學 “Collaborative Learning” Project is proud to announce two new series: “Book Discussions” and “Roundtables“, to be held alongside our lectures and seminars.
