The International Center for the Study of Ancient Text Cultures (ICSATC), hosted at Renmin University of China, will hold its Fourth Ph.D. Student and Early-Career Scholar Workshop on January 14 -18, 2019. Four days of seminars will be concluded with student presentations and plenary discussion on the fifth day. The principal language of instruction and interaction will be English.

Free Access to journal Bamboo and Silk

Individuals are eligible for free access to the significant new journal Bamboo and Silk until 31 December 2019, using access token BSMS4U.

Bamboo and Silk is a peer-reviewed academic journal sponsored by the Center of Bamboo and Silk Manuscripts of Wuhan University. Based on unearthed Chinese bamboo and silk manuscripts from the Warring States period (476–221 BC) and Qin (221–206BC), Han (206BC–220 AD), Wei (220–265 AD) and Jin (265–420 AD) Dynasties, this journal focuses on studies of character identification and textual reconstitution, and studies of the social, political, economic and legal systems as well as ideology, culture, language, customs and other aspects reflected by these manuscripts. The journal includes research articles on bamboo and silk manuscripts and book reviews. All articles are peer reviewed by anonymous outside experts as well as by the editorial board, and reflect the current state of international academic research issues on Chinese bamboo and silk manuscripts.

Third Biannual Ph.D. Student and Young Scholar Workshop: “Ancient Historiography in Comparison”

The International Center for the Study of Ancient Text Cultures (ICSATC), hosted at Renmin University of China, holds its third Ph.D. Student and Young Scholar workshop on June 13-18, 2018. Four renowned scholars from the fields of Ancient Chinese Historiography, Ancient Greek and Roman Historiography, and Ancient Jewish and Biblical Historiography will present lectures and seminars on specific topics. In addition, there will be a keynote lecture at the beginning of the workshop. There also will be student research activities to complement the lectures and seminars. The principal language of instruction and interaction will be English.

Workshop for PhD students on Ancient Text Cultures

We are happy to announce that the second bi-annual workshop organized by the International Center for the Study of Ancient Text Cultures will be held in Xi’an, China, January 5-13, 2018. The theme for this time is “Manuscripts and Materiality of Text.” Four instructors, Profs. AnneMarie Luijendijk (Princeton), Daniela Mairhofer (Princeton), Matthias Richter (CU Boulder), and Xu Jianping (ZJU) will each lead a one-day workshop. Keynote speakers are Profs. Martin Kern (Princeton) and Liu Yuejin (CASS). Please refer to the attached document for more information and application.
