The guest speaker will be Professor Baldwin Wong of Hong Kong Baptist University. Professor Wong will present his draft “To Confucianism, are Perfectionist Policies a Help or a Trap? Thomas Radice is editing A Cultural History of Confucianism in Antiquity, the first of a six-volume series to be published by Bloomsbury, and is looking for contributors. Each volume in the series covers the same eight themes: Texts, Arts, Politics, Metaphysics, Ethics, Rituals & Traditions, Comparisons, and Gender. Chapters run about 10,000 words. Currently, he needs contributors for Metaphysics, Ethics, Rituals & Traditions, Arts, and Gender in early China until Qin. Fellowships for Graduate Study in China

Since 2013, the “China Study Program” (CSP), sponsored by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation, has supported more than 900 international students in areas of humanities and social sciences with their doctoral studies and research in China. As the Secretariat of the Expert Committee of the China Studies Program based at the Renmin University of China, we are writing to introduce the fellowship program to you. We would be grateful if you circulate the letter or encourage students to apply.
CSP provides individualized training programs for each candidate and offers generous fellowships to cover the cost of research, fieldwork, and living expenses in China. By offering opportunities for collaboration with prestigious professors in 18 key universities in China, this program brings in-depth learning and research opportunities. Ph.D. candidates registered in an overseas university are eligible to apply for a “Joint Research Ph.D. Fellowship,” and those who have obtained a master’s degree and are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. degree in China may apply for the “Ph.D. Program in China.”

The board of the The International Society for Comparative Studies of Chinese and Western Philosophy writes with news that they have established a new website:
The ISCWP’s new website has been established at <www.iscwponline.org> especially for the Society’s relevant info since mid 2023; though website-builder service etc. are at a reasonable cost, the new website goes with better resources and technical support; the previous (free) website of the ISCWP at <www.iscwp.org> is unable to be updated due to some technical reasons, although it is still available for the Society’s relevant info before 2023. English-based MA program in Chinese philosophy at Fudan
Since it was launched in 2011, the MA and Visiting programs in Chinese philosophy (with courses taught in English) at Fudan have been extremely successful. In spite of the pandemic that has seriously affected the enrollment, 124 students have been enrolled in either the M.A. program (102 students) and the visiting student program (22 students). They are from 38 countries, with students from North America and Europe forming the majority of the student body), and many of them are top students in their classes, majoring in philosophy, classics, and/or East Asian or Chinese studies. The above facts make these programs simply the most successful of their kind (English-based post-graduate programs in Chinese philosophy) in mainland China.
The program boasts perhaps the largest community of English-speaking postgraduate students interested in Chinese philosophy in the world, a community our students have enjoyed greatly. The comprehensiveness and specialization of our curriculum in Chinese philosophy are unmatched by other programs. We have also assigned tutors to our students, helping them read classical Chinese texts, in addition to the normal language classes. Because of the number and the quality of our students, our programs are a “favorite” of the university administration. As a result, we have been EXTREMELY successful at securing fellowships for students applying for the MA program. (For the visiting student program, only partial fellowships are available through Fudan, but students can apply through some external channels, like the Chinese Scholarship Council, the EU, Chinese consulates, Confucius Institutes, etc..)
To continue its success, I ask you to help us to distribute the information about the programs and encourage your students to apply. If they are already in a doctoral program and wish to spend a year in China, they are also welcome. The Greek Sinologists Council (GSC) is a regional branch of the World Council of Sinology which was established by the Beijing Language and Culture University and has brought together 200 sinologists and translators from 61 countries. The GSC is now inviting scholars of Greek origin who conduct research in sinology and related fields to participate in our programs.
We seek to create a community of scholars dedicated to promoting the study of Chinese philosophy, language, history, and culture. We want to encourage dialogue among Greek sinologists, collaborate on research initiatives, and establish connections with sinologists across the globe.

2024 Seminar Theme – Peace, Inside and Out: This seminar is intended to introduce scholars and graduate students to Confucian and medieval Latin (‘Scholastic’) perspectives on peace within individuals and in broader society, hoping to pave the way for fruitful philosophical dialogue between these important traditions by bringing together those working on projects in Asian or medieval philosophy, ethics, political philosophy, religion, and theology. Preference will be given to those students or scholars already working on issues associated with the theme of the seminar. Questions regarding the nature of peace, and what is required for its achievement, are central to the classical political tradition East and West. Those same questions deeply impact questions concerning what it is to live a good life, as explored differently in ethics and theology. The Confucian and medieval Latin tradition have extensively explored these themes together, as fundamentally inseparable: peace in society requires as a necessary, if not sufficient condition, peace within each heart. The role of education, especially moral or character education, is also critical for effecting the relevant changes to conscience required for peace to flourish. These perspectives have great value in the midst of growing tensions and conflict in the world today. This seminar will focus on shared themes or insights associated with peace within medieval Scholastic philosophy, as well as within Confucian philosophy, both in earlier forms (e.g., High Middle Ages, Qin dynasty Confucians) and in later developments of the tradition.

The journal Axiomathes has recently changed editors and broadened its scope to become Global Philosophy. The journal’s website says:
We are happy to announce Global Philosophy as the new name of our journal. Global philosophy is an ideal, to go beyond the private, sectarian, cultural and geographical limited discourses going on in current philosophy and open the conversation to all philosophers who are qualified, but somehow have been eliminiated from the discourse. Through online platforms and forums, democratic communication to reach this ideal has become easier to achieve than ever. The ideal of Global Philosophy has never been easier to become a reality for everyone in the community.
