The Oxford University Press has recently published a translation and study Korean Women Philosophers and the Ideal of a Female Sage: Essential Writings of Im Yungjidang and Gang Jeongildang, edited by Philip J. Ivanhoe and Hwa Yeong Wang. This work introduces the lives and ideas of two female Korean Confucian philosophers from the Joseon Dynasty. This edited edition provides translation and analysis of the writings of these philosophers. The editors also add in compared and contrast the philosophers’ thoughts with that of western thinkers.
The Department of Philosophy at the University of Warwick is pleased to invite individuals to a one day symposium titled Weakening Strategies: Vattimo and Chinese Thought. The symposium aims to advance a comparative understanding of the concept of weakness with Vattimo’s philosophy. The event will take place on Friday, September 30th, in the auditorium of the Merce Rodoreda building of the Ciutadella Campus of Pompeu Fabra University (Ramon Fargas 2527, 08005 Barcelona). A book symposium on Sungmoon Kim’s Democracy after Virtue: Toward Pragmatic Confucian Democracy (OUP, 2019) has recently been published in the newest issue of The Good Society. The International Conference of International Society for Chinese Philosophy is happy to announce that they are accepting papers for their summer conference (June 20-23, 2023). This year’s conference theme is highlighting the diversity of Chinese philosophy in three ways: philosophical positions, philosophical influence, and comparative perspectives. The conference will be held this year at the University of California Riverside campus, and submissions for abstracts are due by November 30, 2022.
